Bulk Containers

Bulk (or bulk cargo) container is one of the types of containers that is used for shipping. This container has three loading hatches in the roof, each of a diameter of approx. 455 mm (1 3/4′). 1.83 m (6′) is the distance between the hatches (center to center). There are two discharge hatches on the door side. They are sometimes equipped with short discharge tubes for guiding the bulk cargo. Alternatively, two unloading hatches may be mounted in the doorways, for emptying the containers.

What is Bulk Container Shipping?

Bulk containers have three 455 mm (1 3/4′) diameter hatches on the roof. Cargos are secured with the help of the lashing rings which are mounted on top of the side rails. Some of the bulk containers have forklift pockets. They are usually used for shipping heavy and bulk cargo, like grains, spices, foodstuffs. But they can also be used for general cargo.

It is possible to use these containers for general cargo. Lashing rings are mounted in the top side rails for securing the cargo. But there are bulk containers that are equipped with forklift pockets. They allow handling by forklift trucks. Bulk containers are used in particular for transporting bulk cargo, such as grain, feedstuffs, spices.
