Hard-top Containers

With the help of Hard-Top Container it is possible to carry heavy and overheight loads which are difficult to be packed into the standard container. These containers are equipped with removable roof and door header. And this facilitates the process of loading. The walls are generally made of corrugated steel and the floor is made of wood.

What is a Hard-Top-Container?

The container has the roof made of steel that weights approx. 450kg. In some types, this roof has points for accommodating forklift trucks, allowing the roof to be lifted by forklift truck. As these containers belong to the group of special purpose containers, the freight fee could be much higher than the shipment of the standard container. Having such construction, the process of packing and unpacking the container is simplified. However, it is very easy to pack and unpack the container from above or through the doors by crane or crab when the roof is open and the door header is swivelled out.

How does it work?

There may be the need to transport an overheight cargo. Then the container roof may be left open and fastened directly to a side wall on the inside of the container. In this case the roof only needs approx. 13 cm (5 1/8″) of space. The cargo may be secured to the lashing rings that are installed in the upper and lower side rails, the corner posts and the middle of the side walls. These lashing rings on the side rails and corner posts may take loads of up to 2000 kg. The lashing rings in the middle of the side walls may take loads of up to 500 kg, provided that the roof is closed.

When do i need a hard-top container?

Hardtop containers have walls made of corrugated steel and wooden floor. Some of these containers have a removable steel roof and some have a point for forklift trucks. This feature simplifies the process of loading and unloading the container. In case the cargo height exceeds the container’s height, the roof can be left open and secured with the container side walls. Hardtop containers are used for shipping general cargo, mostly dry. Its principal uses include shipping heavy and tall cargo.
