Details of a 20 ft container

Twenty Foot Containers (a.k.a. dry van) are one of the most used container types. They are quite easy to transport, which ensures low handling costs. Ideal for the transportation of bulk goods and furniture or international movings. What you might not know: The term “TEU” stands for twenty-foot equivalent unit.

• A 20-foot container is described in terms of size as: 6058mm x 2438mm x 2891mm.
• Usually, 9-11 pallets are able to fit in one TEU.
• In terms of weight load, the following applies: +/- 27.700 kilogram.

Advantages of a 40ft container

In addition to the small one, there is also a larger 40 foot container. He can hold much more cargo. It is especially intended for shipping large volumes of cargo. Good to know: you can also opt for a taller ‘high cube’ edition. It has an exterior height of 9’6” (1 foot taller than normal). Very suitable for high products.

• Taller and bulkier than the standard containers.

• The 40’ft container can hold up to 24 EU pallets.

(FCL) Full Container

If you want to ship a lot of cargo, then you better book an exclusive private full container. This is known as an FCL (Full Container Load). There is no need to share it with other shippers. It is a popular transport method: optimal transit time, chance of damage is reduced to a minimum and and it is cheaper per unit. Of course there are also downsides: it is expensive for small loads and it can be a financial risk with a larger inventory. Another departure port? If a large full container is unnecessary, you can use be made of a shared container. This is known as LCL (Less Than Container Load). The meaning of LCL is: you pay per m3 or per metric ton for space inside a complete container. There are many benefits like: you can send some good in a cheap way, you can save on inventory costs and it is more flexible during peak-times. Watch out: once you have more than half a container worth of goods, then it is usually more interesting to opt for FCL. LCL cost is calculated by the volume and weight of the packages.

• The idea of LCL is that your shipment is taking up only a part of a partial container.
• A good solution for shipping volumes between 3,5 m3 and 13 m3.
• You just pay for the used volume of the full container.
• There is always sufficient availability (every season).
